Beaver InformationBeavers are semi-aquatic rodents. There are two species of beaver: American Beaver (Castor canadensis) and European Beaver (Castor fiber). These rodents can be found in freshwater lakes, rivers and streams, ponds, but usually near woodlands. Beavers are the second largest rodent in the world. Their average weight is 45-60 pounds. Beavers have webbed hind-feet and a large flat tale. This allows beavers to swim at speeds of up to five miles an hour.
